Minimum 10 hours off duty
2 hours 30 minute or greater intervals

24 hours off duty in previous 14 days

70 hours in 7 days
36 hours to reset

120 hours in 14 days
24 hours off duty after reaching 70 hours
72 hours to reset

Hours of Service Limited Exemption

Applies only to commercial vehicles engaged directly in road
construction and related infrastructure projects

Allows for an additional cycle – 140 hours in 14 days

Limited exemption sections 15 to 18 of the Hours of Service
Regulations

Hours of Service Limited Exemption

Condition 1:

160 km air km from the carriers home terminal or temporary
work site

Hours of Service Limited Exemption

Condition 2:

Compliance with all other requirements of Hours of Service
Regulations , the Highway Traffic Act and all Regulations
under the Act.

Hours of Service Limited Exemption

Condition 3:

72 hours off duty after 140 hours or 14 days whichever
comes first

Hours of Service Limited Exemption

Condition 4:

72 hours off duty before switching to Cycle 1 or Cycle 2

72 hours off duty before switching to exemption from cycle 1
or cycle 2

Condition 5:

Driver has to complete daily log

Remarks section to include operating under exemption

Must produce current day and previous 14 day log

Forward to carrier within 20 days

Carrier must keep on file for 6 months

Carrier must check logs to ensure no violations

Service NL may modify or cancel exemption
